Vijaya Sarathy of Madurai won the 3rd Radha Thiagarajan Memorial State level Open chess tournament, organized by Thiagarajar College of Engineering & Golden Knight Chess Academy, Madurai. This two days State Level Open and Category tournament attracted 464 entries was held on 18th & 19th February 2017 in Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai.
The open category attracted 132 entries from 25 districts. Vijaya Sarathy received the Radha Thiagarajan Memorial Rolling Trophy and a cash prize of Rs.5000/-, R V Adith of Coimbatore finished 2nd with 7 points.
Category level tournament for U8, U11 and U14 was held along with. Arul Prakash N of Madurai scored 8/8 in the U-8 section, S Rajkumar of Madurai scored 7/8 in the U-11 section and M Shanmukum of Trichy scored 7/8 in the U-14 Section respectively. Riah Pillai of Coimbatore, Rianna Netta of Trichy & Aishwarya S of Trichy won the U-8, U-11 & U-14 girls section respectively.
Prizes were distributed by International Master Saravanan Venkatachalam. Other guests present on the dais were Hari Thiagarajan, Trustee, TCE , Dr. Abhai Kumar V, Principal, TCE, Mr. Vasudevan, Deen & G K Raajesh, Placement Officer, TCE. Dr. Chandrasekar, Physical Director, TCE and International Arbiter S Ganesh Babu, Secretary, GKCA.
